"You might bomb, you might do great, but you're not always going to bomb or do great. Are you infected enough to keep doing it?" - Marc Maron

A year later Maron gave stand up a try at the age of 24. He had his start in L.A. at The Comedy Store, later moving to New York City to further pursue the craft. Although, he is famous for the popular podcast: “WTF with Marc Maron,” he has pursued almost every avenue the entertainment industry has to offer. From Off-Broadway One Man shows to writing, directing, producing, and starring in his own show entitled, “Maron.” To date Maron has released 6 comedy albums, multiple books, and is viewed as one of the best alternative comics out there.
This week, Kaizen Komedy analyzes Maron’s relaxed and nuanced approach to stand-up comedy. His vulnerability and lighthearted articulations of dark premises, makes the audience comfortable with laughing at his pain. Even when highlighting his unattractive qualities and criticisms of others, his consistent self-deprecation levels the playing field, keeping the crowd on his side. He takes you through a journey of self-revelation and makes you fall in love with his quirks. Some of his bits we analyzed are BeefHeart and Drug Wisdom, both of which can be found on Spotify.
